How We Started

The vision for ManuScan was born out of a real-world challenge: traditional OCR tools failed to meet the rugged, real-time needs of industrial and logistics environments. While most solutions focused on clean scans and paper-based text, we set out to build something different — a smart, surface-agnostic OCR engine that thrives in complex, messy, and unstructured data capture scenarios.

Our mission was clear: create an AI-powered tool that could seamlessly read etched serial numbers on metal parts, extract tables from scanned PDFs, scan shipping barcodes, and intelligently tag information — all while being robust, fast, and integrable.

Project Process

Research & Conceptualization

We interviewed professionals across manufacturing, logistics, and operations to understand their OCR pain points. Many relied on manual entry or fragmented tools for different tasks — one for barcodes, another for PDFs, none optimized for industrial environments. This insight shaped ManuScan’s unified, AI-driven approach.

UI/UX Design

ManuScan’s interface was designed to be minimal yet powerful. I supports field engineers and back-office analysts alike, with a focus on clarity and large input formats. Every detail — from real-time preview to batch upload — was tested for efficiency.

Development & Optimization

We built ManuScan using a modular pipeline architecture with deep learning OCR models, custom PDF parsers, and barcode libraries. The tool is optimized for edge deployment, supports GPU acceleration, and exposes APIs for enterprise integration. Post-processing logic ensures clean, structured output with smart tagging and normalization.
