Defex — Real-Time Defect Detection
Defex is a computer vision-powered inspection system that detects surface defects on industrial parts with speed, precision, and consistency — offering real-time analysis, confidence scoring, and easy integration into factory automation pipelines.
How We Started
Defex was born from the need to modernize one of the most error-prone steps in manufacturing: manual visual inspection. While humans fatigue and miss inconsistencies, machines don’t — but existing vision tools were too generic or hard to deploy on real factory floors.
We envisioned a deep learning system that could inspect parts just like a human — only faster, more accurate, and without ever needing a break. Defex combines robust image analysis with simple integration to bring quality control into the age of AI.
Project Process
Research & Industrial Benchmarking
We collaborated with manufacturers across automotive, electronics, and aerospace to understand common defect types — cracks, wear, dents, misalignments — and inspection bottlenecks. Our early prototypes were tested against real-world rejection logs to identify where human QC fell short.
Model Training & Customization
Defex’s detection engine was trained on thousands of labeled defect images across various part types. We implemented fine-tuning via transfer learning so manufacturers can adapt the model to their own parts using minimal data.
Interface & Deployment
Defex supports live camera feeds and batch image uploads, with visual heatmaps and JSON/API outputs. It can run on local edge devices or cloud servers depending on use case, and integrates with sorting machines, robotic arms, or alerting systems for automated decision-making.

Key Features
Image-Based Defect Detection
Supports static images or real-time camera input; detects cracks, corrosion, dents, misalignments, and more.
Binary Classification Engine
Labels each part as Defective or Non-Defective, with a confidence score and optional heatmap overlay.
Custom Part Training
Easily fine-tuned for your specific part types (e.g., blades, gears, casings) using transfer learning pipelines.
Automation-Ready Output
Delivers structured JSON reports or triggers APIs for reject sorting or system alerts.
Edge or Cloud Deployment
Optimized for both GPU servers and edge AI devices on the factory floor.

Conclusion
Defex brings intelligent, scalable defect detection to the factory floor — reducing cost, improving quality, and eliminating inspection fatigue. From automotive plants to electronics labs, Defex ensures that only perfect parts leave your production line.
